Preparations to celebrate World Wildlife Day in Humla

Avinash Lama, the official of the project, said that the Ukali project under the third Dhurva conservation program is preparing to celebrate the World Wildlife Day on February 12th (March-3) during the press conference on Wednesday. According to Lama, the official of the project, the aim is to reduce illegal poachers. Official Lama said that this project has been implemented in Simkot, Namkha and Chankheli Rural Municipality of Humla. Recently, encroachment in the forest area has been increasing and it is also a challenge to stop poaching of wild animals. Because of this, the wildlife has started to be at risk. He said that due to forest destruction, the habitat of wild animals is shrinking and there is also a shortage of food. Wild animals have started coming near human settlements in search of food. Humla is home to the snow leopard, one of the many rare species of animals in Humla. Lama said that it is necessary to raise public awareness in the society for their protection. According to the project, schools from Limi Sunkhani Basic School of Namkha Rural Municipality-6 to Ramdev Secondary School of Simkot Rural Municipality-1÷2 where the project is implemented will hold various programs on the occasion of World Wildlife Day. He said that the Ukali project will not only protect wildlife but will also provide livelihood programs for people with low resources in the society. The official Lama said that in order to reduce the negative effects of climate change, the relevant agencies should be interested in protecting biological diversity. Wildlife conservation, environmental protection and research are said to be the first priority.
